Why is this dialogue taking place?

The accessibility of information and communications technologies used by employers is a key to ensuring that people with disabilities are fully included in the workforce. As such the Partnership on Employment & Accessible Technology (PEAT) and the U.S. Department of Labor’s (DOL) Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) are hosting this dialogue in order to find ways to increase awareness of the need for accessible workplace technology.

For more than a year we’ve been hosting a series of dialogues and listening sessions with key technology, employment, and policy experts on prospective solutions to accessible technology challenges—challenges that can affect the ability of people with disabilities to apply for jobs, perform on the job, and advance in their careers. These conversations have generated a range of ideas about the kinds of policies, programs, and structures that need to be in place to ensure the accessibility of technologies used in all aspects of employment.

The purpose of this online dialogue is to gather ideas and insights to inform DOL's efforts around accessible workplace technology issues. Following the dialogue, PEAT will distill and present the results, and use them to help DOL strategize short- and longer-term steps toward implementation.

Why participate?

Through this dialogue, we are looking to further the conversation about accessible technology in the workplace and expand upon the ideas presented during our series of stakeholder dialogues and listening sessions leading up to this event. Your input is needed to help DOL take strategic action to implement the contributed ideas and to continue to increase awareness around this issue.

Who should participate?

This online dialogue is open to all. We are especially interested in hearing from technology providers, employers and users of workplace technology, as well as policymakers.

What's PEAT and how can I learn more?

The Partnership on Employment & Accessible Technology (PEAT) is a multi-faceted initiative to foster collaboration and action around accessible technology in the workplace.
